When you call Gary to discuss your needs you will notice a difference right away. He will discuss your specific needs and suggest a training process to meet those needs. You wont hear a line about it is this amount, I have an opening on this date, your either in or out. Gary also wont take on more dogs than there are hours in a day to train them. He keeps his numbers to a reasonable amount so that all the dogs he works with get the training they need. Gary does all the training himself. Your not paying for an assistent of someone or the person that claims to be a trainer actually learning how to train dogs with your dog. We do it right, with results, consistenly.
Training is a process. It is not a one size fits all, stuff a dog into the mold, and move on approach. This can be a real problem that for some so called trainers. Every problem looks as though a hammer will solve it. Each dog is an individual. The rate that they can learn concepts and progress is different for each dog. While some trainers, including some authors, suggest certain timelines for learning concepts please keep in mind these are only guidelines. It is far more important for a dog to learn a concept completely than it is to learn them quickly. We suggest that people don't get too wrapped up in the so called ideal timeline. This has created problems and frustraion for dogs and their handlers. We teach each dog at the rate they can effectively learn the concepts. Dogs always learn the best through success. Nothing builds confidence like a success cycle. It is critical to teach them in a way that makes them feel good when they respond the correct way. Our goal is to make sure there is something in it for the dog whenever possible. As with humans, success builds confidence and breeds more success. If you have not heard it before we will state it here, attitude is everything in training a dog. Successful confident dogs have great attitudes about training, learning and working. We establish and develop a success cycle in our dogs.
Our training process starts out with building the foundation right from the start. With all breeds of sporting dogs we train that begins with obedience and birds. Obedience provides the basis for a sound foundation. It initiates the teaching process of disciplined focus, developing a purpose in life, the concept of having a job to do and establishes a relationship of respect for you as the handler. Another important benefit is teaching them what co-operation is. Obedience helps develop all of these important concepts in your dog.

In order for you and your dog to receive the most benefit from training with PRG, it is highly recommended that you, the owner/ handler, become part of the process. You don't need to learn how to become a trainer, although we do train other trainers who have that as a goal. However, you do need to learn how to handle your dog. That means learning how to use the tools we have taught and developed in your dog. We encourage all owners to become proactive in the process.
